The Royal Botanical Garden is a must-see for those who enjoy gardens. Spread across 2700 acres, this is Canada’s largest botanical garden. The collection of plants includes five specialist gardens and four nature sanctuaries. Most notable of the nature sanctuary is Cootes Paradise, a wildlife sanctuary containing a 618 acres of coastal wetland located at the west end of Hamilton Harbor.
Make sure you wear your best walking shoes, as there are over 30 miles of trails winding across marshes and ravines, past the world’s largest collection of lilacs (in the Arboretum) and 2 acres of roses in the Rose Garden!
You can just imagine the beauty you’ll see! If you’re visiting bewteen May and October, enjoy the tea houses and café. The Mediterranean Greenhouse displays plant species from warm climates and its best to be seen November through May. The address of these gardens is 680 Plains Rd. W (Highway 2). The gardens are open daily from 10Am-dusk.
